Location was perfect for our needs. We had a Christmas function in town nearby. We were staying within walking distance.Very comfortable rooms, Bathroom was large, fantastic bath (I am a huge bath fan) and walk-in shower fitted me well as a bigger person.

Check-in was slightly frustrating as we had to wait for the receiptionist to greet us. Checking in is an unusual process.Parking nearby is expensive. This is a reality of parking in Auckland, but still the cost, as out of towners we thought was prohibitive. The fridge did not have an ice box. I like to have ice to supercool the water in my water bottle. Unable to do that.

Great rooms, clean and loved the coffee pods. Central and accessible. Great place to stop for offloading our bags.

A great location, and wonderful for exploring. Little bit difficult to find where to check in, and how to park your car, but once it was figured out, the staff were wonderful.

Location was perfect for my needs.

Room aircon not great - room was hot despite turning the aircon to the coldest possible temperature. Bathroom was even hotter.

The location is good because Viaduct Harbour, where there are a lot of good pubs and restaurants, is just a stroll away.

There's quite a few things1. Our toilet flush was leaking when we walked in, we could hear it outside the bathroom, so not sure how that is called a check-in ready room.2. The person who was fixing the flush left the room door wide open with all our luggage there while he's working away in the bathroom.3. We were told the flush was fixed, but it wasn't really. The inlet to the flush tank was closed to stop the water leaking away, so we had to manually open the inlet tap every time we used the toilet, and close it again to stop water wastage and not hear the flushing sound while trying to sleep.4. On our first night, we found out our aircon wasn't working and we reported that the next day. The fan in the room was barely blowing any air at max speed so it was really warm in the room at night and found it hard to get good sleep.5. We had opted for the paid parking at the hotel ($45 a night, yeah not cheap!), but the system of getting in and out of the parking area was horrendous. Every time we had to leave or enter the parking area, we had to call the reception that initially went to an automated message until it goes through (took approx. 5 mins or more if the line is busy) then once the call is connected, the hotel staff had to physically come to the parking area to let the car in (took another 5 mins). And they had to do this for every single guest car. I feel bad for the staff on this one. And it was extremely annoying to just wait in the car for such a long time to get in or out of the parking lot.

Location was wonderful - everything walkable.

The photos (mostly from Sofitel Hotel) didn’t match up with the quality of the room and facilitates so felt a bit misleading. We’ve stayed in hotels within the same vicinity and they were a lot cheaper and more modern. This place feels a bit ‘tired’. Staff didn’t smile, our request for an earlier check-in of 30mins seemed an inconvenience and there were no reasonably priced car parking options offered. Not great value for money.

Location, Room, Bathroom, Bed

Didn’t get any room service during my 3-nights stay. The reception gets closed and after that not even access to the vending machine.Late check-in is a bit confusing.

We really liked the corner room with all the windows and the general feel of the room's interior design. And we liked the large bathroom with two sinks and plenty of room for the two of us to spread out. And though the room was bright, the blinds worked well to darken it. It was a lovely room. We also liked the view of the marina and the location. It felt safe and was within easy walking distance restaurants, the ferry and downtown Auckland.

The communication as to where to park, how to park and specifically how to park in their own garage was not as clear. After checking in we went to park in their garage and the gate would not open. Apparently one of the staff had to meet us at the gate to open it. So went elsewhere but the nearby garage only allowed payment through to 6:00AM the next morning and that meant getting up early to extend the parking. The adjacent garage did not allow downloading the parking app for non residents of NZ - which was a bit unusual. So parking the car turned into a needless two hour (at least) hassle and expense. Also specific instructions were noted for requesting replenishment and partial room service and we followed those instructions yet never received any replenishment of coffee, etc or a few additional towels. It was also unclear how to use the heat/AC and ultimately we opened the balcony door to cool the place. The weather was mild so this worked but had it been hot outside it would have been a problem. Lastly, some of the blinds were off their track and though they still worked, it looked unkempt and sloppy.

Location is good. The room was adequate.

You have to pay to use the pool.

2NareshPosted on: 10-28-2025

The location

Everything else. The hotel does not have any reception where you can access from the street. You have to call them before and they will come and pick you up. They do not have any facilities (or you have to pay $25 to use the swimming pool of the Sofitel) or restaurant. They make the room every 3 days even if you ask them. Very disappointing and not a 4 star hotel

Large clean and excellent location. Comfy bed and handy to everything we needed

Had to be shown third bedroom as first one no blind pulls to open the blind , second one smelt bad as just had carpet cleaned we told but wasn’t going to stay in all those fumes. Third one also lacked some blind pulleys but at this stage we just took it. Seemed like it was a Hassle for the guy to give us a Room that had everything working.

The location was perfect, close to many amazing restaurants and great views of the harbor. Was a relatively quiet area so in was nice and peaceful. The staff were amazing and very friendly.

We couldn't understand the parking, that may have been more of an us issue than the hotel itself. Maybe they could have been a bit more transparent with it.

The room is gorgeous, the bathroom is ? and location is great.

The reception is upstairs and you cant go up until they come down to take you up, takes a while sometimes and then waiting to be seen, reception is small so nowhere to sit and wait (with heavy luggage is annoying lol)Also there's an outside area but you cant smoke out there, you have to go downstairs (annoying for someone that's smoke alot and late at night ?)And paid parking is expensive especially when its first come first serve kind of thing.

Very comfortable spacious accommodation at a good price - great location.

The instructions for checking in could have been clearer: Marsden Viaduct is based in Sofitel Hotel but separate from them and you have to telephone to access Marsden reception staff who are on an upper level. When you are using Google Maps it takes you to the Sofitel Hotel but nothing tells you this is also Marsden Viaduct.
